The present study aims to understand the life experiences of a Chinese father whose child was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). A qualitative case study approach was adopted to capture four participants’ experiences through semistructured interviews. Within-case and across-case analysis was done to gain a deeper understanding of the participants` different interpretations of their experiences of raising an ASD child. The findings suggested that Chinese fathers with a child living with ASD present typical “hero” characteristics, even though they experience various stressors that impact the father’s personal well-being. The findings also presented that a range of coping resources and strategies were employed but those strategies were not enough to cope with the difficulties in raising a child with ASD. The insights gained from this study provided information about what could be improved in our clinical psychological services, and gave us ideas to promote fathers` involvement in raising the ASD child efficiently.
