Abstract
Abstract : Since the reform and open policy began to take shape 16 years ago, China's door has been gradually opening to the rest of the world. Her achievements in the field of foreign trade have been remarkable. Chinese economy undergoes a process of transition from an isloated or semi-isolated mode into an open mode having closer relationships with the global economy. As a result, foreign trade has played an ever more imoportant and strategic role in the country's construction towards modernization. The past sixteen years have witnessed steady and constant growing of China's foreign trade. There was an average annual increase of 16 per cent during the years between 1979 and 1992. The total import-export volume in 1993 amounted to US$ 195.7 billion, an increase of 18.2 per cent against that in the previous year, which included US$91.8 billion for import and US$ 104 billion for export. The trade value (contains import and export) comprised 40 per cent and the export volume 18.8 per cent of China's GNP in the said year. Paragraph Headings: 1.
