- Abstract
- Abstract : Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are mesenchymal tumors found in the GI tract, occur predominantly in middle-aged or older persons. Most tumors occur in the stomach and about 20-30% occur in the small intestine. A small percentage of GISTs arise elsewhere in the GI tract, omentum, of retroperitoneum. GISTs tend to be primarily intramural tumors. Benign GISTs formerly were often called Leiomyoma. They are often clinically silent until reach a large size, bleeding or rupture will happen. The only effective therapy is surgical removal. Like other soft tissue sarcomas, GISTs only metastasize to lymph nodes rarely. Herein is reported a case of upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to GIST and treated with a surgical procedure finally. The general condition is well in recent foillow up. Pargraph Headings： 1.
