- Abstract
- Abstract : This literature review aims to explore the beneficial effects of the Mediterranean diet in preventing the Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). The recommendations about general food group changes will also be outlined, as a useful guidelines for promoting healthy eating pattern. Materials base on updated reviews and studies from several nutrition journals and books. Conclusion The diet is characterized by abundant plant fooks (fruit, vegetables, breads, other forms of cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts and seeds), olive oil as the principal source of fat, dairy products (especially cheese and yogurt), fish and poultry consumed in low to moderate amounts, and wine consumed in low to moderate amounts normally with meals. This diet is low in saturated fat, with total fat ranging from 25-35% of energy. Finally the Mediterranean pyramid describes a dietary pattern that is attractive for its famous palatability, and proven to be effective in reducing the incidence of CHD. Paragraph Headings: 1.
