English Abstract
The term ‘scientific literacy’ was regarded as a central goal in science curricula in the latest round curriculum reform in the P. R. China. Science Habits of Mind (SHOM) is part of scientific literacy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the science habits of mind of middle school students in Dingxi city, Gansu province, as well as examine the scientific literacy level of this area. A quantitative research method is carried out in this study, the data were collected by using questionnaire of science habits of mind survey (SHOMs). In this study, a total of 400 valid questionnaires were received and the return rate is 94.2%. SPSS for windows 21.0 is used to analyze initial retrieved data. In addition, other research methods such as descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, Scheffe’s method and one-way ANOVA were employed in this study as well. After analyzed, the major findings are summarized as follows: 1) The mean scores of example students ranged from 2.38-3.49, with all items having a mean above the mid-point of 2.00, which shows the example students were at a good level in science habits of mind. The items scores rating from high to low were ‘scepticism’, ‘curiosity’, ‘objectively’, ‘rationality’, ‘open-mindedness’, ‘mistrust of arguments from authority’, and ‘suspension of belief’. 2) The mean scores of example students in different gender shown significant differences, schoolgirls got higher scores than schoolboys, especially in the ‘curiosity’ item. 3) In terms of SHOM, there were not significant differences in science students of different grades, while the mean scores of example students of liberal arts in different grades shown significant differences, students got lower scores along with the growth of grade, v namely, the level of science habits of mind of liberal arts students showed a downtrend with grades. 4) The mean scores of example students in different subjects shown significant differences, science students and senior one students who did not has subject branches got higher scores in SHOM than students of liberal arts.
Chinese Abstract
在中國內地新一輪的課程改革中,科學素養成為理科課程改革的主要目標。科學思維 習慣是科學素養的組成部份,可以通過有關科學思維習慣的調查研究,瞭解科學素養的情 況。本研究旨在調查甘肅省定西市高中學生科學思維習慣的現狀。採用問卷調查法,以 「科學思維習慣調查問卷」作為研究工具,甘肅省定西市 400 名全日制普通高中學生為研 究對象,收集結果以 SPSS for Windows 21.0 版進行統計分析,以描述性統計、獨立樣本 t 檢驗、變異數分析、Scheffe 法事後比較進行分析和討論。 研究結果發現:一、樣本學生在科學思維習慣量表七個層面的得分均高於中間值,這 在一定程度上顯示樣本學校學生科學思維習慣良好。七個層面得分高低情況略有區別,由 高到低依次是「懷疑主義」、「好奇心」、「客觀性」、「合理性」、「開放的心態」、 「對於權威言論的懷疑」和「懸置」。二、樣本學生科學思維習慣在性別上存在較為明顯 的差異,且是女生得分高於男生得分,尤其是在「好奇心」層面。三、樣本學生科學思維 習慣在年級變項的差異分為兩種情況:理科學生科學思維習慣在各年級得分相近,科學思 維習慣隨著年級增長並無提高;而文科學生隨著年級增加,科學思維習慣多個層面得分下 降。四、樣本學生科學思維習慣在科目上存在較為明顯的差異,文科生科學思維習慣各個 層面得分明顯低於理科生以及未分科的高一學生。從分析結果看,樣本學校學生科學思維 習慣整體良好,女生、理科生具有更好的科學思維習慣,但是隨著年級增長,科學思維習 慣水準並沒有提高。 關鍵字:科學思維習慣、科學素養、社會性科學議題
