Resumo Hoje em dia, com o desenvolvimento do ensino de português como língua estrangeira (PLE) na China, o número de aprendentes chineses continua a aumentar e podemos ver uma demanda de professores de PLE. Embora abordagens mais actuais de ensino de línguas estrangeiras considerem o aprendente o centro de ensino-aprendizagem (Brown, 2007), a importância do papel dos professores na sala de aula não pode ser ignorada. Na aprendizagem da língua estrangeira, devido a diferentes contextos culturais, as atitudes e expectativas dos aprendentes para com o professor são diferentes e isso também afeta diretamente o seu estilo - de aprendizagem. Desta forma, é importante termos em atenção quais são as representações do papel do professor de PLE para os aprendentes chineses num contexto intercultural. Os estudantes chineses são afetados pela representação social dos professores da sua cultura materna? Qual é o papel do professor ideal de PLE aos seus olhos? Este trabalho focaliza a representação do papel de professor de PLE para os aprendentes chineses. Com a base na teoria da representação linguística (Castellotti & Moore, 2002), através da análise cronológica da representação social dos papéis do professor na China e no ensino de Língua Segunda (LS), tenta-se identificar os papéis principais que o professor desempenha. Para recolher os dados para análise, utiliza-se um questionário distribuído aos aprendentes universitários do Interior da China e na Região Administrativa Especial de Macau (RAEM). De acordo com resultados recolhidos, analisa-se, da perspectiva dos aprendentes chineses, a imagem e o papel do professor de PLE, bem como a relação professor-aluno, com o intuito de contribuir à compreensão do perfil dos aprendentes chineses de PLE. Abstract Nowadays, as the teaching of Portuguese as a foreign language (PLE) has developed profundly in China, there's a prevailing trend for Chinese learners to study Portuguese and we can see a demand for PLE teachers. Although there are some more conventional approaches of foreign language teaching consider learners as the center of the teaching-learning process (Brown, 2007), the importance of the role of teachers in the classroom can not be ignored. In foreign language learning process, due to different cultural contexts, the learners' attitudes and expectations towards the teachers are different, thus directly affects their learning style. In this way, the representation of the role of teachers in the PLE teaching-learning process requires consideration of intercultural factores in a more systematical way with theoretical guidance. Are Chinese students affected by the social representation of teachers in their mother culture? What is the role of the ideal PLE teacher in their eyes? This paper focuses on discussing the role of PLE teacher for Chinese learners. Basing on the theory of linguistic representation (Castellotti & Moore, 2002), through the chronological analysis of the social representation of teacher roles in China and Second Language Teaching, we try to identify the main roles that the teacher plays in the teaching process. Presented data is collected through a questionnaire which is distributed to university students from Mainland China and the Macao Special Administrative Region. The author tries to analyse the image and role of the PLE teacher, as well as the teacher- student relationship from the perspective of the Chinese learners, in order to contribute to the understanding of the profile of Chinese learners studying Portuguese.
