English Abstract

Abstract This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of square-dancing for the middle-aged and empty-nest women, and whether group belongingness moderates the relation between family cohesion and subjective well-being. Using Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales (FACES II-CV),Group Belonging Questionnaire (GBQ) and General Well-Being Scale (GWBS) to measure family cohesion, group belongingness and subjective well-being. This study drew the following conclusions: 1. People who participate in square dancing will report higher levels of subjective well-being to compare to who do not participate in square dancing; 2. People who report higher levels of family cohesion will report higher levels of subjective well-being; 3. People who report higher levels of group belongingness of square dancing will report higher levels of subjective well-being; 4. Participation in square dancing can moderate the relationship between family cohesion and subjective well-being; 5. The relationship between family cohesion and subjective well-being can be moderated by group belongingness. The research and service implications of our findings for providing a scientific basis for involvement in square dancing and promoting the subject well-being of MAENW in China are discussed.
