Characterizing Portuguese foreign policy : a neo-liberal institutional approach

English Abstract

The thesis aims to analyze the motivation of Portuguese foreign policy through the historical development of a current situation. Affected by the deepened globalization, Portuguese speaking countries currently attract more attention to the potential markets. As the former sovereign state, Portugal roles an unique character within the Portuguese community affairs. Notably, the post-colonies network provided the possibility of Portuguese Multilateralism. Traditional Portuguese foreign affairs participate in the European affairs as a preference. While the Portuguese speaking countries has been taken the attention in Portuguese foreign affairs. In the recent decade, Portugal expands the diplomatic relationship with China through the connection with Macau. The neoliberal institutions will apply in this study, and the prospective institutions, interdependence and soft power will approach.
