The role of national power and prestige on the international power transition from the constructivism perspective

The thesis uses the United States as a sample to analysis the history period from the founding of the United Stated to the present, for figuring out that how the national power and prestige impact on the country's actions change through three questions: how the United States obtains the international status of hegemony, how the United States maintains the international status of hegemony and why the United States hegemony status was questioned by the international community. At same time, the thesis will further analysis the international power transition from 1876 to present it include the USSR and United Stated replaced the British and Franch as the new hegemony in the world; the Cold War competition between the USSR and United States to dominate the world; the rising power like China is challenging the international status of United States. Based on that analysis, three conclusions will be drawn: the national power and prestige will determine the international status of a country; The matching degree of national power and prestige will help the country maintain the international status; The country is accustomed to enhance or maintain its international status by raising its national power, but it will fall into the power pursuing trap which will lead to prestige reduction caused by the national power increasing, it will reduce the matching degree between prestige and national power. In the end, the mismatch between national power and prestige will influence international structure.
