Abstract In this project the source text is a special series about legalization of homosexual marriage of a Hong Kong trendy magazine named " 9b ". The purpose of the translation is to persuade the target readers to participate into the fighting for and promoting the legalization of homosexual marriage. The functionalist theories were mainly applied to analyze the source text. The entire translation strategy is Newmark's communicative translation. During the process of tranlation, several challenges appeared. The biggest challenge was there are many Cantonese terms should be translated in the source text. I checked these terms in the Cantonese dictionary, and searched it online for its meaning and utilization nowadays. It was majority used negation and amplification to solve those problems. There would be given some examples with every challenge. There are five chapters contained in the commentary part including introduction, theories analysis, the translation process, discussion of problems and strategies during the translation process and the conclusion.
