In this thesis, the cavitation erosion (CE) and pitting corrosion behaviors of a wrought austenitic stainless steel (AusSS) has been investigated after different solutiontreatments and cryogenic treatment in different environments (3.5% NaCl and distilled water). A higher solution treatment temperature would increase the grain size, which will cause CE resistance to decrease and will enable martensite to form more easily, as reflected by mass loss and extent of surface damage during the CE process. Formation of martensite during the CE process causes quick surface roughening. Also, existence of marteniste causes a decrease in pitting potential. Upon cryogenic treatment in liquid nitrogen (77K), martensite would form in the wrought AusSS. The hardening associated with martensite formation delays CE damage quite a lot, but this beneficial effect is only seen when the treatment duration is long enough.
