Title

E-health literacy in Mainland China : validation of the E-health Literacy Scale (eHEALS) in simplified Chinese

English Abstract

To my best knowledge, there is no validated measure in simplified Chinese to assess E-health literacy in mainland China. The aim of this study is to validate the eHEALS (Norman & Skinner, 2006a) in simplified Chinese in Mainland China. An online questionnaire survey was conducted using the nonprobability sample of 342 medical related persons. The findings suggested that eHEALS is a reliable and valid tool that can be used in Chinese contexts. Some predictive variables proved to be positively related to E-health literacy levels, including education levels, the amount of time spending online, and computer skills. Moreover, participants’ perceived health status was also significantly correlated with their E-health literacy levels. The results showed the original eHEALS constructs were consistent with different age and cultural groups, and could be used in mainland China.
