This study was to study contributing factors for types of crime committed by female inmates in Taiwan. Self-report questionnaires were used in four female prisons to collect information. Results show that inmates who experienced juvenile victimization and mental health were prone to commit larceny and drug trafficking. Age is an important factor on crime versatility and specific types of crimes. Social stability factors (marriage, education) were also associated with the types of crime committed by inmate participants. The results provide useful information for exploring types of crime, which can be used to establish policy suggestions to work toward prevention, enforcement and resource allocation.
