Homicide is an issue that cannot be ignored. In China, intentional homicide cases can have a powerful and negative social influence. This study draws on court verdicts (downloaded from the website of China Judgments Online), to analyse intentional homicide in China. Statistics software IBM SPSS Statistics is utilized to conduct statistical analysis, including descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression. The results indicate characteristics of the intentional homicide offenders, features of case details and some correlations. It was found that most offenders are male, young or middle-aged, educated to a low level, low class labour. Cases often occurred in the home, without the presence of others, as a result of family conflicts and so on. The gender of offenders is statistically correlated to methods of killing and whether they ruined evidence, and the death sentence is related to whether the killing was cruel or not, whether victim was at fault, and whether compensation was offered to victims‘ families. These findings are consistent with previous studies. This study also applies sociological and criminological theories, including strain theory, routine activity theory and trait theory, to explain these results and to obtain some theoretical findings. Finally, policy implications and suggestions for future studies are provided by this study.
