In British government perspective remained insufficient to expand the territories of Hong Kong up to a self-sufficiency level. Later on, British government gained the New Territories throughout an unequal treaty called The Convention Between Great Britain and China Respecting an Extension of Hong Kong Territory. The New Territories were leased from Chinese government to British government for 99 years from 1898 to 1997. I have tried to discover and present a perspective of understanding New Territories that will lead to a complete understanding of traditional Chinese village in South China. Besides, this thesis explained that British government was rarely established through a stable system of rule with an unchangeable basic. Their special policy of indirect rule was an effective practice for administration instead of having any special concern of recognizing local religion, rituals, and culture
