Title

Study and analysis on FOD detection and surveillance system for airport runway

English Abstract

Foreign object debris (FOD) is any object located in an inappropriate location in the airport environment that has the capacity to injure airport or airline personnel and damage aircraft. Metal, plastic, stone fragment, paper and rubber product are common FOD object in airport runway. Fast and precise FOD detection is one of the important tasks to ensure flight safety and that can immediately to real time to remote monitoring on the runway. That is a solution of system to increase the safety, accuracy and efficiency in same time. Based on the international requirement of FOD detection and surveillance system, three detection systems (fixed-, tracking- and pan-tilt-zoom camera approach) will be presented. In order to fulfill high stability, the specified equipment and communication interface will be analyzed and selected. Moreover, an effective algorithm for FOD detection will also be proposed to achieve fast and accuracy processing.
