There have been few studies on English to Chinese translation in animation, especially for children. The purpose for this research is to find out the approach and methods used for translating the beloved genre of media and the textuality of animation. Subtitling is the major target of this study. Subtitles from Dialogues and musical elements have been chosen for this study by using a combination of a qualitative and a quantitative research. The research data is the animation ‘3rd and Bird’ which has been deemed as a quality cartoon series broadcast in the UK and Chinese Taiwan recently. This study has analyzed samplings to find out the translation approach in subtitling that have been used towards dynamic equivalence or formal equivalence as proposed by Eugene Nada and Charles Taber. This study also endeavors to also figure out the translation methodologies adopted in the subtitling of the animation and other methods unmentioned by scholars. As well as this, this study will conclude whether the translated version of subtitling has been properly rendered for the ‘little’ target text audience – children, and whether it is suitable for their tastes. Furthermore, alternative solutions for rendering the features of children’s oral language have been found in the study, too. The vii findings and also the limitations of this study have been pointed out in the last part of the paper.
