ONLINE 3D HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS AND FITTING ROOM DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT by Yang Yang Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Liming Zhang Master of Science in E-Commerce Technology Since its birth in the early 1990s which was then followed by 20 years of development, the web has now become the most important and the most popular Internet application. From HTML1.0 to 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, XHTML and nowadays' HTML5.0, the web has been seeing more rich content and more fascinating pages. However, the mainstream of the web page is by far still two-dimensional. With the rising popularity of threedimensional technology, the next generation of web technology is pacing in this direction, including 3D equipment exhibition hall, 3D campus tour, 3D applications and games, 3D display, etc. The development of the web has made the online shopping a part of people's daily life. A 3D is where the future development of ecommerce will go, as it brings users brand-new visual experience. The traditional web can only show boring 2D data, whereas the Web3D visualizes the data, resulting in a revolutionary influence on the web. This field is still in its early stage, while open source solution undoubtedly is key to promoting the popularization of the technology. WebGL and the associated open source technology will definitely lead the dissemination and promotion of the Web3D. In this thesis, e-commerce and 3D technology are combined together, to build an ecommerce platform supporting both the B2C (business-to-consumer) and C2C (consumer-to-consumer) e-commerce models. The B2C model is embodied in that the website as a company is mainly engaged in the garment business in cooperation with clothing makers, and produces a 3D garment fitting room. As the 3D modeling of each garment is a relatively complex and delicate process, the 3D fitting room function for sellers can be used only by the website, but is not opened to the sellers. Even though users have become sellers through application, they can only sell goods by means of a common 3D display. The innovation of this thesis is to match and display garments via the disassembling and assembling of 3D models. The C2C model is embodied in that the sellers registered as small shop members can make 2D pictures into 3D models by using 123Dcatch and upload the 3D models for buyers to choose. Here it only fits for some relatively simple articles. In this way, the shopping website can be made more diversified. This thesis introduced the Web3D technology for e-commerce, and focused on the development of 3D technology of HTML 5. With Canvas tag, the technology allows the user to use JavaScript to do GPU programming directly, so as to realize 3D display, or generate animated 3D scene that will be executed by the browser directly, no plug-in needed. In this thesis, the technology was applied to the common 3D display system and 3D garment fitting room made by author.
