Title

Ethical leadership and career outcomes : a study of Macau hospitality industry

English Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of ethical leadership on the career outcomes of hospitality workers in Macau. I proposed a conceptual model linking ethical leadership, psychological capital (PsyCap), and three career outcomes including job satisfaction, career satisfaction, and career commitment. A questionnaire survey was used to test this model with data collected from 140 front-line employees working at five major hotels in Macau. Results indicated that ethical leadership was positively related to hope and optimism of PsyCap, and hope and optimism further mediated the positive relationship between ethical leadership and career outcomes. Several practical recommendations were suggested to hospitality management on how to identify and cultivate ethical leaders in the organizations.
