The impact on the tourist's consumption behavior of luxury fashion brands : studies on customer-specific characteristics of Mainland Chinese tourists in Macao

English Abstract

There are multiple reasons for the rapid growth of luxury brand industry in Macao: Macao has been getting more popular for shopping tourists under the Individual traveler scheme, no tariff charged on international imported goods, Macao is geographic proximate to Mainland China and the positive influence of luxury resorts established in the past decade after the handover to China. In order to better understand on the increasing number of Mainland Chinese luxury shoppers, this research will focus on four main streams of customer characteristics to investigate on their impact on spending in luxury fashion market during their visits in Macao, include attitude, behavior and the geo-demographic variables. It aims to provide a better insight into effective market segmentation of tourist shoppers coming from Mainland China. The result shall benefit the brand operators in constructing a more customized approach in devising marketing strategy.
