What financial investment do high-net-worth individuals like to pick? : evidence from China

English Abstract

With the blooming economy in China, a lot of people earned big money in the past thirty years. But now the rich people have found that they don’t have the opportunity any more to get fast money, they pay more attention to the financial investment and its risk. This paper attempts to highlight the risk preferences of financial investment. It holds a special focus on the High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs) in China. Would their risk tolerance increase or decrease with age, income, asset, and education level? Is it different with gender or marital status? There are two important financial service agencies for HNWIs in China, one is Private Banking Department of Commercial Banks, and another is Trust Companies. The clients of private banks and trust products investors could be considered as HNWIs, at least very rich peoples. The present study is based on survey method. It involves collection of primary data from the trust products investors of a leading trust company in China. The data from the investors relating to their investments was collected with the help of a structured questionnaire. This research probes into the following aspects: Investment preferences based on demographic factors. The paper concludes with suggestions regarding the expectations from the investment options.
