Title

Empirical analysis on Chinese online P2P lending

English Abstract

This study empirically investigate the relationship between factors of loan listing and lenders’ lending decisions in online P2P lending market by using data from Renrendai.com, a leading online P2P lending platform in China. We firstly examine the relationship between factors of loan listing and borrowers’ likelihood of getting a loan. Then we analyze the effect of factors of loan listing and similarity between borrowers and lenders on lenders’ lending decisions on whether to bid and what amount to bid. We find that investors in online P2P lending market also pursue high return and low risk. In addition, getting more experience in this market and providing more information about borrowers themselves increase the likelihood of getting a loan. However, we do not find any evidence that similarity between borrowers and lenders has significant influence on lenders’ lending decisions.
