The 2009 and 2013 Macao Legislative Council Election in the local newspapers : analysis of the coverage of Macau Daily, Shimin Daily, Vakio Daily and Cheng Pou

English Abstract

News coverage is one of the main source for voters to learn information about candidates in modern election campaign. In this study, a content analysis of news coverage of both the 2009 and 2013 Legislative Council Election appearing in the four local Chinese dailies during the election campaign was conducted. The results showed that partisan bias existed in these four newspapers. Macao Daily and Shimin Daily tended to favor the pro-establishment camp, while Vakio Daily and Cheng Pou tended to be more balance and neutral. For the framing of the Legislative Council Election, both in the two elections the four newspapers emphasized the game frame.
