The BRICS cooperation mechanism and its impacts on global economic governance

English Abstract

The current framework of global economic governance has some deficiency that does not conform to the requirements for the distribution for the actor's strength in global system. On the one hand, it predicted that the direction of economic globalization is the excessive expansion of the new liberalism system in the global economy. On the other hand, developing countries' voice in the current global economic governance is also very limited, so that they can only passively accept and obey the economic rules set by the western developed countries. Along with further widened gap between the power distributions in global governance, emerging economies are no longer content to be at a subordinate position when concerns the international political and economic affairs, and they are very urgent to request to joint in the process of making decision for the rule of global economic governance. According to Academic circles, it is generally believed that the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) are typical representatives for the emerging economies. As a the national group of emerging economies, BRICS countries has produced profound influences to the global economy in just ten years time since it was first proposed till now. Compared with previous years, the economic growth has decreased much and the international community' perception for the BRICS are mixed, but BRICS countries still has played an important role in promoting global governance through cooperating with other formal or informal international mechanisms. especially in the aspect of global economic governance reform. 5 This essay focused on the BRICS cooperation and its impacts on the global economic governance, which is made up four parts. The first part introduce the global economic governance regimes in the post-war as well as its weakness under the background of rising emerging economies, which provide the realistic foundation of BRICS countries' participation in global economic governance. The second part is about the comprehensive overview on the BRICS cooperation mechanism and their formation and process of inclusive development. When compared with the developed countries, they asked more reformation of the global economic governance. The third part explains that in order to effectively join in global economic governance, BRICS countries can realize the objective through several means such as create BRICS development bank, advance the reform of international financial system and so on. The fourth part, however, is devoted to the restricted factors of BRICS cooperation development and prospects the conditions for BRICS countries to continue to promote the effective development of global economic governance.
