English Abstract

With the development of economy, the process of science and technology and the adjustment of industrial structure, more and more nations and regions are in the transition from the age of industrialization to post industrialization as a result of economic development, science and technology progress and industry restructuring. The decline of industry in this period gives birth to lots of economic, social and environmental problems. In the meantime, many factories, industrial buildings and equipment go to waste. In Europe new functions and artistic values were attached to these heritages which may otherwise be removed or destroyed. Gradually this new concept was acknowledged by other countries in the age of post industrialization. Many cities in China, however, are in the middle or last stage of industrialization and some even enter the age of post industrialization. This paper introduces the protection and creative use of industrial heritages in Ruhr Industrial Base and Yangtze River Delta Industrial Base, analyses historical background, rules and policies, developing mode and current situation of the two regions respectively and finally summarizes the similarities and differences of the two regions and concludes the experience that Yangtze River delta region could draw from Ruhr.
