Study on the technical efficiency and productivity growth of China's textile industry

English Abstract

Total factor productivity (TFP) growth in Chinese textile industry is calculated for 28 provinces ranging from 1990 to 2010 using non-parametric linear programming methods. Both annual and provincial dimension TFP indexes are contained, and TFP growth rate is divided into technical efficiency changes and technical changes. The result information is used to examine whether there is progress in productivity and efficiency. About the regional analysis, regional disparities still exist in TFP growth, although the gaps between them have declined in the latter ten years. Furthermore, the results in line with our expectations, which suggest that the TFP growth in east China is the greatest, central and western regions were ranked as the second and third, then state some useful policy analysis in the future textile industry developments.
