Title

The discursive struggle of "river crab" in Macau

English Abstract

This research attempts to explore different forms of discursive struggles—the special social phenomena constituted by “river crab” discourses in Macau, about how the discursive formation of “river crab” culture constructs various forms of discursive struggles. The research examines the context of “river crab” discourses, and as discursive practices of struggle through the case study of May Day social movement in 2010, and also the theoretical perspectives of alternative Internet activism through the methods of virtual participant observation of discourse analysis. Eventually, the research finds that discursive struggles of “river crab” discourses in Macau are embodied through three types: from parody and “egao”, to rational discursive discussion, social movement, and the follow-up social practices.
