Title

The reform of the European Court of Justice

English Abstract

1. Introduction: The European Court of Justice (the Court of First Instance is attached to it) is the only judicial institution of the European Union. Originally, there was only the European Court of Justice. The Court of First Instance was created by the Council Decision 88/591 OJ 1988 L319/1 to relieve the workload of the Court of Justice and to enhance the judicial efficiency. It is situated in Luxembourg to maintain a teamwork atmosphere of this institution. It is independent from other Community Institutions as well as the member states. It was created by the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). It plays an important role and function in the establishment of the legal system of the European Union. According to the article 220 its main functions are to ensure the European laws are uniformly enforced and interpreted throughout the European Community.
