Title

ETS measurements and ventilation strategies for indoor environment

English Abstract

Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS), also known as Secondhand Smoking(SHS) or Passive Smoking, is considered to have serious health effects to the occupants, therefore, no cognizant authorities have identified an acceptable level of environmental tobacco smoke exposure. As smoking is already defined as a harmful behavior, the risk of adverse health effects for the smokers cannot be reduced, however, it is important to protect the health of the non-smokers as all human are having the rights to breathe in clean and healthy air. International research has been done with using various strategies to reduce ETS exposure for non-smokers, including separation of smokers from non-smokers, ventilation, air cleaning and filtration, and smoking ban. This study has investigated the commonly used smoking policy for public places (restaurant)in Macau and analyzed the effectiveness of them. In addition, international engineering approach for reducing the health risk to the non-smokers has also been studied based on the investigated result in order to provide an appropriate smoking control policy for Macau.
