Title

A study of two Chinese translations of Romeo and Juliet in the light of norm theory

English Abstract

In recent few decades, studies of translation have been done mainly in a prescriptive way. The purpose of the present paper is to look at translation in a descriptive way by using Toury’s norm theory. By scrutinizing two translations of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet, it is hoped that the importance of the relationship between the intention of translators and the readers’ acceptance would be mirrored. Key words: norm theory, intention, acceptance
