The contribution of various Chinese women writers during different dynasties had profoundly influenced the history of Chinese literature. Their literary works were varied, consisting poems, verses, essays, and others. because of their significances, the study of Chinese women literature has become a major research project among modern scholars. However ,it seems that scholars seldom focus on the study of individual women writer of any specific dynasty comprehensively. The aim of this thesis is to analyse , thoroughly and critically, the works of five major women writers of the Han Dynasty(206 B.C.-220 A.D.).It is expected that this study would contribute to an understanding of woman's perception on, and attitude towards,the contemporary social, moral, political, and intellectual problems. simultaneously Chinese women. This study also discusses the following issues: the literary style of these five women writers; contemporary and later reviewers' critcism and assessment on their works and personality; and the impacts of their works and ideas in the contemporary and later periods. This thesis studies the following five major women writers: Tang Shan Fu Jen唐山夫人,pan Chieh Yu 班婕妤,Pan Chao 班昭,hsu shu徐淑,and Tsai you 蔡埮。The research scope and method is based on vertical and horizontal approach. Vertically, the thesis analyses the background, form and content, and ideas of the works of individual writer from an historical perspective. Horizontally, the thesis commentates on the individual literary work with a view to analysing the writer's life experience, sentiment, and thinking. There are seven chapters. In chapter one, a general discussion on the women literature of the Han Dynasty is presented. In chapter two, Tang Shan Fu Jen and her major work, Ah Shih Fang Chung Ke 安世房中歌, are studied. In chapter three, the value and impact of the literary works written by Pan Chieh Yu is assessed. In chapter four, Pan Chao's scholastic achievement in history and literature is introduced. In this chapter, her social and ethical thinking as exposed in Nu Chieh女誡, and her achievement in scholism as revealed by LIeh Nu Chuan Chu列女傳注 and Yu Tung Fu Chu 幽通賦注 are studied. In chapter five, the sublimity and moral thinking of Hsu Shu is investigated by studying her life experience and writings. Chapter six is a biographical study of Tsai Yen and a textual criticism of her major works. This chapter also discusses the critiques of her literary works by reviewers of the later periods. The last chapter is a conclusion, summing up the scholast achievement and status of these five writers and their unique state of mind in the contemporary literary world. It also makes an assessment on their profound impacts.

中國婦女文學,對中國文學史之影響遙深,由詩篇、辭賦以至於雜文書疏,可謂琳琅滿目。研究中國婦女文學之問題,亦漸為近世學者所注目,惟對斷代或個別女文學作家及其作品作全盤之深入研究者,似乎仍是罕見。本文旨在對兩漢五位主要女文學作家之文學作品,對當時婦女於道德、政治、文學及史學之思想、觀念與學養及其從所居處之社會所產生之心態、遭遇與其在社會上之地位作多方面之了解;其作品之風格及當時與後世學者對其人格及作品之評介,以至其思想及照片對該時代與其後之影響,皆所旁及。本文研究之五位女作家為唐山夫人、班婕妤、班昭、徐淑及蔡埮。於研究之範圍中,采取橫縱橫兩方面之路向。縱者,乃從歷史發展方面觀察,務求將每一作家,於其作品之寫作背景、文學思想與形式之淵源及對當時與後世之影響加以論析與探究。橫者,乃用橫切面之方法,將其作品分別作必要之釋繹,以求深入了解作者之思想、感情、身世以及所表達之觀念與意識。本文分七章論述,一為緒論,討論兩漢婦女文學之概略。二為對唐山夫人及其作品《安世房中歌》之研討。三為析論班婕妤詩賦之價值與影響。四位簡述班昭之史學與文學之造詣,其表達倫理思想之《女誡》及訓詁學養之《列女傳注》《幽通賦注》均作深入之探究。五為根據徐淑之詩文以探窺作者之高尚情操與其道德觀念。六為對蔡埮之生平及其作品之考證與析論,並綜論後世學者對其詩文之評介。最後一章為總結,其目的在乎綜觀此五位女作家之學養及其在當時文學藝術上之地位與其獨特之心態,兩漢婦女文學對後世之影響亦一并在總論之列。
