Abstract
Objective：To evaluate the distribution of astigmatism and high order aberrations (HOAs) in children after cataract surgery. Methods：Refractive astigmatism was measured with the Topcon KR800 autorefractor；while HOAs were measured using Pentacam and GALILEI G4. Correlations between astigmatism and HOAs. Results：9 eyes of 6 subjects with a mean age of 8.33±3.8 years were studied. The average time of follow-up was 6 months. The mean spherical equivalent refractive error was -1.03±3.83D. The mean total astigmatism was -2.78±1.21 D；the mean corneal astigmatism was -2.29±0.72 D; and an 88.9% of rule astigmatism was found in total astigmatism. However，an 80% against-the-rule was found in corneal astigmatism. The most common higher-order aberration was oblique trefoil，with a mean value of -0.57±1.64 μm，followed by vertical trefoil (-0.23±0.85μm) and spherical aberration (-0.21±0.04μm). The third order was the most common order of aberration，followed by the fifth and the fourth，its contribution to total HOA in descending order：51.92% for the third order，25.53% for the fifth order，and 22.55% for the fourth order aberrations. Conclusion：Astigmatism mainly occurred from corneal astigmatism，oblique trefoil，vertical trefoil and spherical aberration are the predominant higher-order aberrations in children’s eyes that had undergone cataract surgery.
