Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the distribution of astigmatism and high order aberrations (HOAs) in children after cataract surgery. Methods:Refractive astigmatism was measured with the Topcon KR800 autorefractor;while HOAs were measured using Pentacam and GALILEI G4. Correlations between astigmatism and HOAs. Results:9 eyes of 6 subjects with a mean age of 8.33±3.8 years were studied. The average time of follow-up was 6 months. The mean spherical equivalent refractive error was -1.03±3.83D. The mean total astigmatism was -2.78±1.21 D;the mean corneal astigmatism was -2.29±0.72 D; and an 88.9% of rule astigmatism was found in total astigmatism. However,an 80% against-the-rule was found in corneal astigmatism. The most common higher-order aberration was oblique trefoil, with a mean value of -0.57±1.64 μm,followed by vertical trefoil (-0.23±0.85μm) and spherical aberration (-0.21±0.04μm). The third order was the most common order of aberration, followed by the fifth and the fourth, its contribution to total HOA in descending order:51.92% for the third order,25.53% for the fifth order, and 22.55% for the fourth order aberrations. Conclusion:Astigmatism mainly occurred from corneal astigmatism, oblique trefoil, vertical trefoil and spherical aberration are the predominant higher-order aberrations in children’s eyes that had undergone cataract surgery.
