Abstract
Abstract : This applied research paper uses a content analysis of the ancient Chinese classic text, the I Ching, to contribute to the theory and practice of leadership in general and moral leadership in particular. This analysis highlights the positive role that such a religious and cultural text can offer to contemporary research and understanding of leadership by offering insights into the perennial concerns related to the leading and managing of dynamic and successful organizations. For instance, an overarching principle of leadership propounded in the I Ching is the vital role played by ethical values in any successful leader’s mission and work, the significance of this being that any description and theory of leadership behavior without the acknowledgement of the moral dimension impoverishes our understanding of such an important phenomenon.
