Abstract
Abstract : Macau's immediate future is the future of its most dominant industry: garments and textiles. This industry was the machine that powered Macau's growth over the recent years beginning, most visibly, in the mid-1980's. Whether it shall continue to do so is not the pressing issue. The pressing issue is HOW. Many describe Macau's economy as service based; a tourism and gambling enclave is its fame. There is truth in this especially when one look at the number of people employed by the service sector. But Macau's recent prosperity was not created from this sector. It was in making and selling abroad garments and textiles. It is in this sector, too that Macau must begin its serach for the strategic direction of its economy. Paragraph Headings: 1.
