- Abstract
- Abstract : Whether avatar behavior in the video game reflects a player's ideal self or actual self is debated in the literature. In this study, we provide new evidence to literature by examining whether avatar behaviors in massively multiplayer online role-playing game reflect a player's ideal self or actual self. We predicted players' behavior in Jian Xia Qing Yuan 3 would reflect their ideal self more than actual self. Results only support our hypotheses in terms of appearance. In terms od agreeableness and extraversion, both actual self and ideal self are reflected in the players' behavior in the game, though it was actual self, not ideal self, which played a bigger role in explaining the players' behavior in the game.
