Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between elevation of gamma-Glutamyl transferase level and clonorhis sinensis infestation. Methods: Clinical data concerning examination of clonorchis sinensis and gamma-Glutamyl transferase level during the period of July 2001 to December 2003 were obtained from the Data Bank of CHCSJ (Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário) and Public Health Laboratory of Macao, respectively. The data were matched and selected according to the criteria. Finally, the enrolled data were tabulated and analysis statistically using Chi-square test. Results: 1340 patients completely fitted the criteria. After analysis, the highest infestation rate of clonorchis sinensis (2.85% in 7-12/2001, 3.05% in 2002, 4.45% in 2003) is in the age group 40-49 and the lowest infestation rate (0.39% in 7-12/2001, 0.25% in 2002, 0.30% in 2003) is in the age group 13-19. There is no obvious distinction of clonorchis sinensis infestation rate between both genders. There is statistical significance between the elevation of gamma-Glutamyl transferase level and clonorchis sinensis infestation (p<0.01). Conclusions: Elevation of gamma-Glutamyl transferase level is a hint of clonorchis sinensis infestation. Paragraph Headings: 1. Introduction 2. Materials and Methods 3. Results 3.1.
