- Abstract
- Objective : To review emergency obstetric hysterectomy in our unit, including the reproductive history, incidence, indication and complication. Methods : The clinical data of obstetric patient undergoing emergency hysterectomy from January 1990 to December 1999 were analyzed retrospectively. Result : There were 38,853 deliveries, 7 maternal deaths, 23 emergency obstetric hysterectomies. For an overall annual incidence of emergency hysterectomy was 0.6 per 1000 deliveries. 15 cases underwent subtatal abdominal hysterectomy, the others 8 underwent total abdominal hysterectomy. The most common indications were uterine atony, placenta accreta, uterine rupture. There were 2 cases of Urologic injury, 9 cases of coagulopathy and one case died from the complication of center catheter. Conclusion : Emergency obstetric hysterectomy remains an important life-saving procedure in unavoidable catastrophe. Our 10 years data showed when the incidence of emergency hysterectomy increased, the rate of maternal death decreased significantly. Paragraph Headings： 1. Introduction 2. Materials and methods 3.
