- Abstract
- Objective: To study the expression of apoptosis-associated gene bcl-2, bax and p53 in epithelial ovarian cancer, and the relationship between them. Methods: Immuno-histochemical SABC method was used to examine the expression of bcl-2, bax and p53 proteins in 27cases of epithelial ovarian cancer, 10 cases of borderline ovarian tumors, 11 cases of benign ovarian tumors and 10cases of normal ovarian tissue. Results: None of the normal ovarian tissue showed positive stain of bcl-2, bax and p53. The expression rate of bcl-2 in benign, borderline and malignant ovarian tumors was 9.1%, 30.0% and 81.5% respectively, there is significant difference between malignant ovarian cancer and the others. It wasn't associated with age, FIGO stage and pathologic types. The expression rate of bax in borderline ovarian tumors was 80.0%, which was significantly higher than benign and malignant ovarian tumors. It was also associated with FIGO stage, with lower expression rate in III IV stage than I II stage, and wasn't associated with age and pathologic types. The expression rate of P53 in malignant ovarian tumors was 77.8%, which was significantly higher than benign and borderline tumors. It wasn't associated with age, FIGO stage and pathologic types. There was significant relationship between p53 and bcl-2, p53 and bax. p53 was positively associated with bcl-2 and negatively associated with bax respectively according to their expression rate.
