Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study is to detect the expression of CD44v6 and v7 mRNA in epithelial ovarian carcinoma tissues to probe its role in carcinogenesis, development and metastasis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma. Methods: The expression and its clinical significance of CD44v6 and v7 mRNA in 38 patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma, 15 patients with borderline epithelial ovarian tumor, 30 patients with benign epithelial ovaruan tumor and 10 patiebts with normal ovarian tissue were detected by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) method. Results: The positivity and relative contents of CD44v6 mRNA in patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma (97.7%,110.44±6.93) is higher than in patients with normal ovarian tissue (0%,0), benign epithelial ovarian tumor(20.00%,99.56±2.15) and borderline epithelial ovarian tumor(73.77%,102.30±3.49). The expression of CD44v7 was only detected in one patient with epithelial ovarian cancer. The relative contents of CD44v6 mRNA in patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma correlates with their clinical stage, histology grade and lymph node metastasis(P>0.05). The positivity of CD44v6 mRNA in patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma does not correlate with their clinical stage, histology grade, and lymph node metastasis(P>0.05). Conclusions: The expression of CD44v6 maybe plays an important role in carcinogenesis, development and metastasis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma. Paragraph Headings: 1. Materials and Methods 1.1.
