- Abstract : Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a major component of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. It refers to the provision of advanced airway management and the institution of electrical therapies and medications for managing patients with cardiac arrest. Since its development in the 1960s, CPR has been revised and updated regularly to improve the standards of such practice. At a recent "Second American Heart Association International Evidence Evaluation Conference and the International Guidelines 2000 Conference on CPR and Emergency Cardiac Care, international experts have developed a new CPR guideline according to the principles of evidence-based practic. The article summarizes the major changes of ACLS, and presents a case to highlight the nurse's role during cardiac arrest situation in a general ward setting. Paragraph Headings: 1.
