Abstract
Objective: To study the therapeutic forward effects of Heller esophagogastric myotomy with antireflux procedure versus dialation in the treatment of achalasia. Method: From December 1983 to May 2004, 54 patients with achalasia were treated in our hospital. 26 cases of this series underwent Heller esophagogastric myotomy with antireflux procedure and 28 cases were treated with dialation. Result: Dysphagia was completely or partially relieved in all patients treated with Heller esophagogastric myotomy with antireflux procedure and no patients exhibited refluxed esophagitis. 26 cases of this series underwent Heller esophagogastric myotomy with antireflux procedure and were followed-up from 10 months to 15 years. 28 cases were treated with dialation and followed-up from 2 to 10 years. 26 cases treated with dilatation had satisfied result and the effective rate is 92.9%. The occurrence rate of refluxed esophagitis is 8%. Conclusion: The effect of transabdominal Heller esophagogastric myotomy with antireflux procedure is better than dialation in treatment of achalasia. As dilatation is easy to be performed, it can also be used in selected cases. Paragraph Headings: 1. Clinical Data 2. Result 3. Discussion Tables: 1.
